Description
A deep-tech compute startup competing in a category flooded with near-identical pitch decks. The technology was genuinely differentiated. The story wasn’t. Investors couldn’t tell Aurik apart from the eleven other infra companies pitching that same quarter.
Challenge
Every touchpoint — deck, site, cold email — led with technical specs instead of a reason to care. The team assumed sophistication in the audience that wasn’t there yet. Positioning was accurate and completely forgettable, which in a fundraise is functionally the same as wrong.
Solution
Built one wedge — “the compute layer nobody sees” — and rewrote every asset around it. Cut the technical depth from the first fold entirely; moved it to a dedicated page for buyers who’d already decided to care. Deck, site, and outbound email all echoed the same three lines, verbatim, everywhere.
Result
Closed the seed round in six weeks, faster than the team’s own timeline. Two funds that had gone cold on prior outreach came back inbound after the repositioning went live. Founders reported the pitch finally felt like theirs, not a template borrowed from a YC deck.
